Four Months Makes a Fool.

"Hey, Nikki?"
The tall girl hummed, tapping away on her laptop. Ashlee knew she would be reading it later that night- most likely abandoning the effort to whatever show was on the television. But her mind was elsewhere.
"How long has it been?"
Nikki looked at her, confused. "What?"
"Remember how I once showed you that picture that if a crush lasts note than four months, it's love?"
She suddenly nodded. "Uh... It's four months tomorrow."
Ashlee suddenly froze, frowning. "You're kidding. It's been that long?"
Nikki nodded. "Last week before school ended, right? The Friday before?"
Ashlee swallowed. "Wow. I never thought... Wow."
Her chest ached. Tears lined her eyes, and she sighed. "Pretty depressing, huh?"
"Whatcha mean?" Her friend asked, shutting her laptop.
"I've held on for four months, and I'm pretty certain he doesn't even know. I can't believe myself."
Nikki shook her head. "Just means you know what you want."
"Yeah, but that's a want," she replied. "There's a big difference if he doesn't feel the same. At that point, it means nothing."
Nikki opened her computer back up. "So, let's write a story. That'll make you feel better."
Ashlee chuckled. "If you say so. Let's start it, 'Once upon a fine August day...'"
